Pathway for concerns and complaints

Jan. 07, 2026

Concerns about your team or other club related matters?

The step-by-step communication process designed to resolve issues fairly and at the earliest possible level. By encouraging dialogue and respectful communication, the guidelines aim to prevent unnecessary escalation and ensure that all parties feel heard.

Communication Path for Concerns & Complaints

  1. Pause First
    • Wait 24 hours before sending emails or filing complaints to allow for reflection and calmer communication.
  2. Start at the Team Level
    • Address concerns directly with the team manager/parent liaison.
    • If the issue involves coaching, also notify the Coaching Director and Divisional Director.
  3. Escalation Within the Club
    • If the matter cannot be resolved at the team level, escalate to the Club President.
    • The President will determine next steps and, if necessary, communicate with the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council (GELC).
  4. Do Not Skip Levels
    • Concerns should not be taken directly to GELC or the Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA) by parents or members.

Concerns involving maltreatment, abuse, discrimination, or other serious breaches.

While many day-to-day concerns—such as team logistics, coaching decisions, or minor disputes—can and should be addressed directly at the club level, issues involving maltreatment, abuse, discrimination, or other serious breaches of safe sport values must be reported through the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM). This distinction ensures that routine operational matters remain within the club’s responsibility, while more serious concerns are handled independently through a transparent, third-party process designed to protect participants and uphold the highest standards of safety.

The Alberta Lacrosse Association (ALA) has launched the Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM), now the exclusive process for reporting and resolving maltreatment complaints. Alongside this, the ALA has adopted the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC) and the Reporting and Independent Resolution Policy (RIRP).

ALIAS Solutions Inc. is an independent service that allows confidential reporting via web or phone. All cases will be managed by ALIAS’s third-party team, ensuring transparency and accountability.

This initiative places ALA at the forefront of safe sport in Alberta, reinforcing the commitment to a respectful, inclusive, and supportive lacrosse community.

Safe Sport is more than policy—it’s a promise. Every participant deserves an environment free from abuse, discrimination, and harm. Your voice and actions matter: speak up, support others, and help build a culture where safety is the standard.
