Update from Club President

May. 17, 2023

Hi, everyone with the season well underway we have hit a critical point of not having enough refs available to referee our “CHILDRENS” games.  Please take some time to read the below and talk to your children about this.

It's important to remember that lacrosse, like any sport, should be played with respect for the rules and for those in charge of enforcing them. With a shortage of officials, it becomes even more crucial to ensure that players and coaches are not engaging in behavior that can result in penalties or abuse towards referees.

Here are a few tips to help keep the game safe, fair, and respectful:

  1. Emphasize respect for officials: Coaches and team captains can set the tone by emphasizing the importance of respecting the referees and their calls. This can help prevent players from becoming frustrated and lashing out in response to perceived unfairness.
  2. Know the rules: Understanding the rules of the game can help players avoid committing penalties and can also make it easier to understand why a call has been made. Coaches can review the rules with their team to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
  3. Stay focused on the game: It's easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment, but players and coaches should make an effort to stay focused on the game itself rather than becoming distracted by disagreements with calls or other issues.
  4. Address issues calmly: If there is a disagreement with a call or another issue arises, it's important to address it calmly and respectfully rather than resorting to yelling, arguing, or other forms of abuse.

By following these tips, players and coaches can help ensure that the lacrosse season is enjoyable and safe for everyone involved, including the officials who play a crucial role in enforcing the rules of the game.
